Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) will be collaborating with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) once again for a one-night-only performance. SDT will be presenting two enchanting classical works, Rubies by George Balanchine and Paquita after Marius Petipa.
Celebration in Dance presents a rare and brilliant opportunity for RAD students in Singapore to perform on the prestigious stage at the Esplanade Theatre.
Rubies is the middle segment of Jewels, a three-act plotless ballet by George Balanchine. Each section of the ballet is distinct in both music and mood; Rubies is crisp and witty, epitomising the collaboration of Stravinsky and Balanchine. Paquita is a ballet with great style and character, comprising a series of group sections, pas de deux and solo variations, incorporating brilliant technique.
“It is our hope to bring student dancers closer to professional dance performance through this experience with SDT in a performance celebrating everything that is magical and special in the art of dance and performance. Students devote themselves to the study of ballet to experience the process of learning and the rewards of dancing in front of an audience,” says SDT Artistic Director Janek Schergen.
