The Second Leg: Philadelphia

By Cheryl Tan

PHILADELPHIA

Think Philadelphia, think FX’s hit television programme – ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’, if you are a fan, head over to Paddy’s Pub and you will get the opportunity to view the iconic bar that is the centerpiece of this 7 season running television show.

If that isn’t your cup of tea, then head over to this eco-friendly boutique inn situated at Spruce Street. This inn has received plenty of thumbs up reviews because of its speciality of being eco-friendly without compromising on the luxury aspect, which is often a tough feat to pull. As an occupant, you will get free Wi-Fi and an infinite amount of fruits. So now, every exploring adventure you have in Philadelphia will come equipped with a bunch of fruits, courtesy of Alexander Inn.

For those Nicholas Cage fans or fans of the movie – National Treasure, walking down Philadelphia will be quite recognizable because of monuments like the Liberty Bell, Hall of Independence, Washington Square, etc. Especially not to be missed are the LGBT stores, take a walk down the streets populated by these stores and get a view of men walking in astoundingly high heels to just chilling with a very relaxed crowd.

Choose to visit the various war memorials located in Philadelphia to get a sense of the myriad of immigrants who enter Philadelphia and the rich mix of cultures within this state. It’s also a good way to exercise on foot as the memorials are all linked in a smooth parkway design, so it feels like you’re walking through Botanic Gardens and not visiting just stone structures.

If you are a foodie, Philadelphia is a great place for authentic Philly food. Famous all over the world for its Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, which is a generous dose of beef slices sitting on a line of melted cheese slices enclosed in a warm crusty bun. This sandwich is a regular meal for the locals and it is not to be missed!
