Read Our World – a #BuySingLit event @ Various locations
In light of COVID19, there’s been some changes to the programme – refer here for more.
The annual #BuySingLit movement is back for its fourth year running. Participants both young and old are invited to embark on a journey around Singapore, traversing familiar heartlands to the iconic Jewel Changi Airport and even the revamped, historic Pasir Panjang Power Station. These locations set the stage for music performances, writing workshops, dramatic readings that will unlock new perspectives on local literature.
More than 60 exciting programmes will be held over two weekends from 6-8 and 13-15 March. Advocating ‘Buy Local, Read Our World’, #BuySingLit aims to raise awareness about SingLit by celebrating stories from Singapore. The movement gathers homegrown book publishers, retailers and literary non-profits to encourage more people to embrace and discover SingLit.
Featured highlights include:
  • Singlit Power House:  Held at the red-brick Pasir Panjang Power Station which is steeped in Singaporean history, there will be theatrical performances (Glorious, Monstrous Hantu Tales by Cake Theatrical Productions), a literary dance party (Singlit Sounds: A Silent Disco by Singlit Station) and a site-specific performance (Modern Resonance ll by sound artist Li-Chuan Chong, spoken word poet Deborah Emmanuel and visual artist Alecia Neo)
  • GoToRoYo – Together at Canopy by UP Collective: Held at Jewel Changi Airport, they present a weekend of fun-filled weekend for families with 3 different performances
  • #BuySingLit Book Bazaar: Lose yourself at the #BuySingLit Book Bazaar – and discover a world of exciting new stories! Organised by BooksActually, the bazaar will bring established and independent publishers under one roof to offer a wide selection of local and regional literature.
