The young actors in SRT’s The Young Company are about to complete their 2-year acting training course and is putting up a graduation showcase called The Fall.
According to Population.sg, Singapore has about 4.7 citizens of working age (20 – 64) in 2016 for every 1 older adult (65 and above). By 2030, our country is expected to have only 2.3 citizens of working age per older adult. This means that younger citizens will have to shoulder more responsibility to care for a larger group of older citizens, compared to earlier generations.
And perhaps it is most apt that SRT’s The Young Company chose James Fritz’s The Fall
for their graduation showcase. The Fall is a powerful, funny and moving play that makes the audience consider life from both a young person and an older person’s perspectives. It asks some difficult pertinent questions about ageing and the difficulties the youth of today face and as they grow older.
The Fall makes an impact with its young actors empathising with the elderly and exploring the issues they face, proving that their generation can, in fact, care about the older generation.
