Ballet Under the Stars is back for its 24th edition! This iconic outdoor dance event by the Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) will showcase a weekend of contemporary works from 5 – 7 July, and another weekend of classical ballets from 12 – 14 July.
This year, the event will be made more exciting with games, hawker style food, popcorn, candy floss, ice cream uncle, and photobooths in a carnival-like atmosphere, so there will something for everyone!
The first weekend features two works created for SDT, Linea Adora by Timothy Harbour and Evening Voices by Tim Rushton, which show the unique collaboration between dancers and choreographers. Complimenting this is SYNC by Nils Christe, from SDT’s 30th anniversary gala last year.
The second weekend celebrates ballet classics. It begins with the haunting Act II of Giselle, followed by sections from Swan Lake, including the famous White Swan pas de deux from Act II and Act III’s Black Swan pas de deux. The final act will be The Land of Sweets from Act II of The Nutcracker. These ballets are presented in their chronological order of creation and explore dance through the classical period that made ballet one of the world’s greatest arts.
