Free outdoor movie screenings with free snacks during B.Y.O. Cinema! | campus.sg

B.Y.O. Cinema is back this year, with free outdoor screenings of local movies – what’s more there’ll be free free-flow of snacks like churros, popcorn, candy floss, ice cream, kacang puteh, and even muah chee! These screenings are held over Saturdays stretching from June to September at 7pm, and take place at various places across Singapore.

B.Y.O. Cinema kicked off last Saturday with Forever Fever (1998) which is a disco comedy set in 70s’ Singapore, featuring a young Adrian Pang dancing with bell bottoms. If you’ve missed it, here are some more upcoming movies:

It’s A Great Great World (2011) | 29 June

GSS Pop Up @ Grange Road Carpark | 7pm
A peek into Singapore’s golden age of theme parks, the movie is set against the backdrop of the Great World Amusement Park, which was Singapore’s second amusement park built in 1929. The film covers four stories that take place there during the 1940s and present-day. Look out for fashion and F&B retailers doing their GSS pop-up thing.

Ramen Teh (2018) | 13 July

Eco Lake Lawn, Singapore Botanic Gardens | 7pm
A film for foodies, the film follows the adventure of young ramen chef Masato (played by the popular Japanese actor Takumi Saitoh) who travels to Singapore to find out more about his maternal roots. The highlight of the film is, of course, the food – particularly the Bak Kut Teh Ramen which was actually available at Keisuke Ramen at one point. Watch out for Thai fusion snacks at the Sawadeecup Food Truck.

Zombiepura (2018) | 31 August

Esplanade Forecourt Gardens | 7pm
Singapore’s first zombie film is set in an isolated army camp where a mysterious virus breaks out and turns recruits into the undead. With a combo of ridiculousness and a fair share of comedic moments, the movie follows the lazy soldier Corporal Kayu who has to team up with his arch-rival Sergeant Lee to survive.

Lulu the Movie (2016) | 28 September

Fort Canning Green, Fort Canning Park | 7pm
If you’re a Michelle Chong fan, then you’ll probably like the titular character she plays. Lulu is from China, who comes to Singapore to meet her dream guy she met on Weibo. Lulu’s limited understanding of English and her many mishaps sets the stage for her accidental internet celebrity despite mockery and discrimination.

Don’t forget to bring your picnic mats! For more on the movies, check here.
