Tears of Themis

The game developers of the wildly popular Genshin Impact, miHoYo, has announced that its latest release will be a mystery/detective game, which they billed as a “Romance Detective Game”. Titled Tears of Themis, it’s a very different gaming style from Genshin Impact – here, players solve cases and establish justice through a romantic journey in the fictitious city of Stellis.

Play the role of a female lawyer with romantic aspirations

Tapping into the wild popularity of dating sims geared at women, the game seems to be aimed at female players with a reverse harem format. You basically take on the role of a female lawyer who seeks justice and the truth when breaking down cases at Themis Law Firm, and your legal journey is accompanied by four main male characters: Luke Pearce, Marius von Hagen, Vyn Richter, and Arten Wing, who all have their own respective identity, personality, skills, and background.

You’ll unveil hidden details about each case by gathering – and inspecting – physical evidence from the crime scene before questioning witnesses and suspects. You’ll also head to court for legal battles where the evidence you collect will be used against criminals. But you’ll notice that the cases may be connected – what’s with the rise in mental illness cases and the mysterious “X-NOTE” project?

Since the game focuses on ‘romance’, you’ll also be cultivating relationships with the four male characters through all kinds of missions, whether it’s conducting investigations or solving puzzles. You’ll also be able to go on a string of dates to get to know them better, texting or video calling them whenever the need arises. The goal in this game isn’t to just solve crimes in Stellis city, but to also build special connections with the one male character you prefer to lean on.

Tears of Themis boasts stunning visual art, and is billed as a mystery/crime adventure peppered with romance and wits. Here’s a trailer of the game:

Tears of Themis will be available on the App Store and Google Play at some stage in the future, but for now, there are character profiles and synopsis on the Tears of Themis site if you want to know more.

The Closed Beta Testing will begin on May 8th, and if you’re interested to be among the first to play the game and help the developer improve the game, you can register here.
