Guinea Pig in New Zealand Joins the Ranks

Elliot, a 4-year old guinea pig, has joined the ranks in the New Zealand Police Department.

He is known for appearing on the department’s Facebook page, where he will talk about about important matters like theft and safe driving.

One post was…

“Remember people, the kids are going to be out and about walking and biking, and crossing roads. Like me, they are small and unpredictable, so you have to watch out!

Keep an eye out for school patrols and please do your part in keeping our kids safe. Drive to the conditions, reduce your speed and stay alert. Oh, and eat your greens….always eat your greens.”

Elliot also has his own specialised uniform to wear when he is on the job, which includes a little hat and a small harness, similar to what police dogs wear.

A police spokesperson from New Zealand Police told The Dodo “Police are always looking at new ways to communicate with the public and promote messaging as quickly and as efficiently as possible.” If only we had someone like Elliot who can preach public safety for bike share users.
