Rave with a Chance of Rain

by Macca Xinlei Lee

Having been an avid Siloso Beach Party goer for a few years now, I’ve seen the event develop and grow with it’s increasingly grander sets. While the layout and setup of the entire rave remained mostly the same, this year in particular had a few more things popping up – things that convinced me of the organizers attention to details and how they consistently try to improve the party experience for their crowd ever year, even if it’s only by rather modest steps!

New this year, the charging station by the side proved godsend for party-goers who may have depleted their phones’ battery on snapchats, selfies and half an hour long videos of themselves trashing around the beach, or simply, forgot to charge their phone prior to this event. Also, making an appearance this year, several podiums were situated throughout the grounds, which gave audiences a stage to not only dance on, but also the chance of even seeing anything especially from way back.

Party-wise, the main stage and its animations looked better than I ever remembered. The rich technicolor strobes and display panels were probably exhilarating for first-time ravers and trippy for those already intoxicated out of their minds.

The turnout this year was also spectacular despite of the rain that kept coming and going. The crowd began to become sluggish in the first few hours of the party, but that quickly picked up nearing 2230. It started getting really hard to walk from where I was in the foam pool – never seen it this packed in my life – back to the main stage to join the countdown party.

All in all, the crowd was diehard and people started cheering even louder once the rain returned . It seems that Siloso Beach Party’s dedication to its partygoers has paid off, and it has definitely earned a spot next to Zoukout as one of the biggest outdoor parties in Southeast Asia.
