On 24 May 2016, famed Swiss Folk Metal band Eluveitie brought their signature blend of heavy metal to Singapore for the very first time. Playing at the Ground Theatre at SCAPE, they shook the walls and gave their fans exactly what they were looking for.

Even though this might be the last time that they play as a full group, the band’s current troubles did not affect their performance in any way. From playing old favourites to newer songs, they gave their all and worked in perfect sync (something which must be difficult considering there are nine members). The cheers spoke for themselves, and the crowd was throwing up horns and heading banging as hard as they possibly could to each tune.

Eluveitie even played a new instrumental piece off their upcoming new album Evocation II, the long-awaited sequel to Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion, making Singapore metal heads some of the first to hear this excellent new tune. Expertly blending Celtic instruments with electric guitars, it was exactly what we have come to expect from these excellent musicians.

As for the crowd, they gave as much as the band did. There were mosh pits aplenty, with hardcore fans screaming at the top of their lungs, and giving themselves up to the music as the band cheered them on. They definitely showed that there is a devoted metal following here that will turn any gig into a hardcore experience.

As Eluveitie said goodbye, people were smiling, sweating, holding up horns and screaming, sending them off the stage in true metal style.
