[Summary] Campus #42: The Money Issue

In our 42nd issue, we talk all things “money”, featuring hot financial trends around the world, from the big business of food delivery in Singapore and the wild success of fast fashion that is shaking up designer labels, to the rise of cost-cutting consultants and trendy co-working spaces as the global economy slows.

We’re also offering up insights into economics geekdom as we shine light on the basic concepts underpinning the world economy, from GDP to economic policy, to how banks (and debt) really work – culminating in an explanation of how the global financial crisis (the “GFC”) of 2007-08 actually happened (it’s easier to understand than watching The Big Short).

We also touch on globalisation – like how food monopolies rule our world more than you may think, or how fast fashion has become a part of our culture, and how billion-dollar empires were created on snack foods.

Then there’s the interaction of money and society, as we compare the costs of living as a student in different countries, as well as the costs of Singapore’s own education system. We also examine the complex relationship of art, money and high society, as well as how billionaire Warren Buffett raised a family of hardcore philanthropists.

For fun stuff, we feature upcoming movies, festivals, productions and gigs in July and August in our Out & About section. Fancy travelling? We give you the low down on shopping, eating and adventuring in Taiwan on a budget, and suggestions of fun things to do in Chiang Mai, the underrated gem of Thailand ~ plus check out the discount code for extra-cheap flights!
