A drive for innovation lies at the heart of Mapletree Business City’s latest venture: Design in the City, an outdoor furniture design competition.

Aimed at promoting and conceptualizing design innovations by budding local design students, it focuses on thrusting the Singapore design student onto the world map of urban architecture and design.

Besides vying for the top cash prize of $12,000, the top 2 entries will have their proposed designs fabricated and installed at the Open Plaza and Eco Pond – both located within the cosmopolitan vibe of the Mapletree Business City.

When asked about the type of design entries he is looking for, Mr Lim Choon Hong, Managing Director of Xtra Designs and fellow judge of Design in the City comments, “ The youth of today are well-exposed to the developments of art and architecture. I’m definitely looking out for interesting new designs and sound concepts – the designs should be able to tell a story.”

Mr.Malcolm Tan, Senior Lecturer of Design at Temasek Design School adds that the competition will provide students with an “invaluable experiential journey into real-life design situations by allowing them to encompass the academic aspects together with the proposed design functionalities and create something they can call their own, something they can show to the world.”

Interested participants can download entry forms from Mapletree Business City’s website or learn more about the competition on their Facebook page.
